California Roll Bake

(with seared tuna)

This is a slight alternation on the crab, avocado, and cucumber that is a traditionally in the roll.  You also don’t have to worry about rolling the sushi either!  The ladies were super happy to be able to have sushi, without all the effort.
My inspiration for this dish was for our Oscar party, the movie: La La Land. Does it get more LA or Californian than sushi? 🙂
Almost finished dish: Just needs sriracha aioli

Ingredients:
2 cups cooked rice, with 2 tbsp rice vinegar
Nori sheets
1 lb imitation crab, chopped finely
¾ cup mayonnaise
½ cup sour cream (can use all mayo if needed)
Sriracha
avocado, diced
cucumber, diced

For tuna marinade recipe, see here: Tuna Bites.
1 lb tuna, sushi grade
Sesame Seeds (optional)

Directions:
Turn your oven to broil.

In a large bowl, mix together crab, ½ cup mayonnaise, and sour cream.

In a large casserole dish/baking pan, spread a layer of rice a little under halfway up the pan.

1 layer of Nori on top. (If i made this again, I would consider just chopping/ripping and sprinkling on top at the end.)

Spread the crab mixture on top.

Broil for a few minutes until the topping is browned.

While sushi is broiling, sear tuna for 1-2 minutes on each side. Allow to rest. Slice.

Top with the remaining ingredients: diced avocado, diced cucumber, and sliced tuna.

Add sriracha aioli (or combine more sriracha and mayo) and spread on top at the end.

Cut into slices and serve.
