Burrata with Blackberry, Basil & Jalapeno Compote

Scroll down to content

This recipe came from Game of Thrones inspiration as we wanted to make a fun “Eunuch” dish, I decide to make two Burrata Ball recipes. This was one of them!

I know that blackberry compote pairs perfect with cheese, so I thought adding a little basil and jalapeno would add depth to the sauce on top. We loved the way the jalapeno added just a hint of heat on the back end of the sweet blackberry. The creaminess of the burrata and the crunch of the bread made for a perfect appetizer!

It’s a great recipe to make ahead and set out when guests arrive. (especially when they come over to watch Game of Thrones!)

For those of you who don’t know about burrata, it is a fresh Italian cow milk cheese made from mozzarella and cream. The outer shell is mozzarela, but inside is cream, giving it a soft texture. Difference-between-mozzarella-and-burrata

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 jalapeno, minced (adjust to your preference)
  • 6 oz blackberries (1/4 of a pint)
  • 8 fresh basil leaves, chiffonade, divided
  • 1 tsp water
  • 1 burrata ball (We love @uav from https://www.pastaprovisions.com/
  • Toasted or grilled bread for serving

Directions:

Add jalapenos into sauce pan, and allow to slightly cook (about 3-5 minutes). Add blackberries, 1/2 the basil, and water. Allow to simmer about 10 minutes until the blackberries have broken down to the desired consistency. Allow to cool slightly.

On a platter, top burrata ball with blackberry mixture. (This can be warm or already cooled from earlier.)

Serve with the other half half of the basil, extra blackberries, and bread.
